Community Spirit in bucket loads – Oh yes, it is!

It’s that time of year, panto season, when the glitter and glam emerges into the Walkington Village Hall once again. Whilst the Walkington Panto Players boast a superb and talented cast, the team is far wider, the list of tasks involved in such a production is never ending! That’s without considering the huge amount of time, the months, but for some, the year of preparation, writing the script, songs and directing such a wonderful piece.

Snow White meets Dick Walkington is a super special production in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the very first Walkington Pantomime in 1972.

The Promotion Company’s involvement started in 2018 when our Angela and Richard moved into the village, Angela’s Mum, Pat Whelan, auditioned and became a much-valued member of the cast, currently playing the Magic Mirror in this year’s production. Of course, Angela and Richard wanted to support her and there it was, the start of something special, a true understanding of genuine community spirit! The involvement grew and now Richard is a cast member too. He is currently playing in his third production, performing previously as Troll, an ugly sister and now Reggie – the rat boy, all of which he has embraced and loved playing. Angela and her dad play active roles in the backstage crew by painting the backdrops and being responsible, alongside the rest of the team, for the stage management. It’s a real family and community affair!

The Promotion Company has supplied the Walkington players panto kit this year and has helped them celebrate great success with celebratory 50-year anniversary pin badges and water bottles.

This village theatre company has not only provided wonderful entertainment to many thousands for 50 years, but with an age range of 14 to 81, all playing very important roles together, socialising and supporting each other, how fabulous is that?

Thank you, Walkington Theatre Players, for welcoming all  into your community, our Angela and Richard (and family)  love it, oh yes we do!
