Promotion and Prosperity for 20 Years – A Personal Reflection.

By Angela Oldroyd

The 5th July marked a very special milestone – 20 years since Richard and I signed on the dotted line and became the proud owners of The Promotion Company (Hull) Limited. It’s been an incredible journey filled with hard work, community spirit, and a deep love for the city we call home: Hull.

As Sales & Marketing Director, I’ve had the privilege of working in customer-focused roles for over 40 years. Building strong relationships has always been at the heart of what I do. My passion for business led me to earn a Business Management degree from the University of Hull, and I’m proud to still be involved with the university today – as a supplier, a mentor, and a volunteer.

Richard, my partner in life of 37 years, and business partner, he is the operational backbone of our business. His commitment to quality and service has been instrumental in shaping our reputation for excellence. I often say, and truly believe, that he is the hardest working man I have ever met, and he must take credit for the organic growth of The Promotion Company.

Community and Collaboration

One of the things I value most is the power of networks and community. I’m an active member of For Entrepreneurs Only (FEO), where I contribute to educational programmes that support young aspiring entrepreneurs. Helping others develop their skills and create opportunities is something I’m deeply passionate about.

Promote and Prosper

We’ve been proud to organise the Promote and Prosper events – bringing together local businesses and entrepreneurs to share ideas, collaborate, and grow. These events have become a real celebration of Hull’s creative and collaborative spirit.

Love Hull, Give Back

Our love for Hull is also reflected in our involvement with Love Hull charity events. Through The Promotion Company, we’ve raised significant funds for the children’s charity When You Wish Upon a Star, helping to bring joy to children facing life-threatening illnesses.

Gratitude to Our Team and Partners

None of this would have been possible without our incredible team. We’re especially proud to have supported five apprenticeships over the years – watching young talent grow and thrive has been one of the most rewarding parts of our journey. To our dedicated staff, past and present, and to our trusted suppliers who have stood by us through thick and thin: thank you. Your hard work, loyalty, and belief in our vision have played a huge part in our success.

Looking Back – and Ahead

As I reflect on the past two decades, I feel incredibly grateful. Richard and I have built more than a business – we’ve built a community. Our journey has been shaped by the people we’ve met, the partnerships we’ve formed, and the city that continues to support us every day.

Just one last personal thanks, to Richard for persuading me that buying a business was a good idea, because of this, my personal development, my self-confidence and skill set has grown beyond belief, and I will be forever grateful!

Here’s to 20 years of promoting and prospering – and to whatever comes next.

Warm wishes,
Angela Oldroyd
